Getting started with ERPs

Parent Previous Next

Even if the whole NPX Lab Suite is capable of handling many different file formats (e.g. EDF, ASCII, MEG,  etc..), some of them have intrinsic limitations (e.g. lack of events handling). It is then recommended to use the ERP module with a NPX file. Moreover, the opened file (even NPX) should contain events, in particular Spots, which are a class of events of 0 ms duration (typical of triggers), that are necessary for the segmentation procedure. Note that EDF files do not support events, so that using them, even if allowed, should provide no immediate results: in this case one can add events after opening a file (e.g. generated automatically by some built-in procedure such as the template matching facility or imported from an external file, etc…). However, it can be impossible to save the inserted events into a file other than a NPX one. For this reason, it is recommended to convert any non NPX file into a NPX one using the File Converter tool, which is included in the NPX Lab Suite, before performing any analysis. Actually, the File Converter is able to import and convert data into NPX from the following supported file formats: ASCII (read and write), Biosemi (read and write), Brain Vision Analyzer (read and write), CTF MEG (read), BCI2000 (read), EDF (read and write), Neuroscan (EEG, read), GDF (read), EBNeuro (read), Micromed (EEG, read), Microsoft Waveform Audio File (read and write).

During  the conversion procedure no changes are done to the original file. For more information regarding the File Converter and how to use it read the relative documentation.

Once you have access to a NPX file you are ready to perform your ERPs analyses.
