Native NPX Lab Files

Parent Previous Next

This file format (by braINterface) is implemented using the XML technology, which allows to add information to a file without breaking the backward compatibility. It actually supports high resolution events, recording pauses, spatial filters parameters (e.g. ICA, CSP, etc...), sensors coordinates, montages, and much more. Signals are stored to a bounded file (with the BIN extension) so that the NPX file format is actually formed by two files, with the same file name and with the NPX (in XML format) and BIN extensions (binary). The binary file, that usually is quite huge, contain just the signals whereas the NPX (XML) file, which is much smaller, contains all the other information, such as events, montages, spatial filters matrices, etc... This was also done for efficiency reasons, because the huge binary file is rarely modified, while the xml small file is continuously updated, thus resulting in faster read-write procedures.
