Q: Is the NPX Lab suite free?
A: There are many distributions and tools related to the NPXLab Suite. The free one can only be downloaded from the braINterface web site (www.brainterface.com). From the same site other versions can be downloaded, but for the other releases you have to obtain a special license. There are other releases, including the following ones:
● the DECODER EU Project release (which is only free for the DECODER project members and for the duration of the project), which includes additional tools for the analysis of Brain Computer Interface signals such as many classifiers and the Common Spatial Pattern engine;
● the EBNeuro Galileo EEG recording and analysis system (you have to buy a special license for it from the EBNeuro local distributor) which includes additional tools for the integration of the analyses provided by the tool and the Galileo Database system;
● the EBNeuro package for the diagnosis of several kind of Dementia, which includes many analyses as described in [Onofrj et al, Brain, 2007]. Again, you have to buy a special license for it from the EBNeuro local distributor;
● other "customizations" for single users.
Q: Why is it free?
A: Because I (Luigi Bianchi) have developed these tools over the years (many years) and I really hope they could be useful for other people. I also hope that in this way I can start scientific collaborations with other research team to be able to have funding for paying fellowships and/or to improve the software packages.
Q: How can I contribute?
A: Free contributions are welcome, which include tools, documentation, donations, suggestions, etc.... What's more important, for now, is to improve the documentation.
Q: How can I make a donation?
A: Via PayPal, following this link or the other suggestions from the LICENSE.
Q: I cannot open a NPX File with any NPX Lab Suite tool. What can be the cause?
First of all, try to open another NPX file to investigate whether the problem is related to the file or it is a more general problem. If the error occurs opening just a specific file then the problem is probably related to the file itself. You have two things that you can do:
1) be aware that usually a NPX file is bound to another file with the same name but with the extension “.BIN”. So, if you have moved or want to move a NPX file from a directory to another, remember to move also .BIN file, which should be in the same directory of your NPX file. Also check that both files (e.g. "goopy.npx" and "goopy.bin") are both present and in the same folder;
2) contact the brainterface team.
